Hamburg in 3 Days

These three days show you Hamburg at its clearest and liveliest: mornings by the water, brick and canals in between, evenings with a wide view over the city. You move from rough harbour air into quiet park paths, from turbulent history into precisely built miniature worlds. The Elbe is never far away, and that is exactly what gives the route its thread.

What makes this route special is the mix of typical Hamburg and quieter moments in between. You get big perspectives and small details without rushing through the city.

What to expect

Expect very walkable routes with a clear dramaturgy for each day and plenty of time outdoors. The route mixes viewpoints, walks and a few intense stops, so every day feels varied without becoming restless.

Day 1 · Hamburg

Harbour air and Elbe views

The opening belongs to the water: at the Altonaer Fischmarkt you immediately feel the city's direct, unpolished side. From there you continue to the St. Pauli Piers, where ships, wind and wide views come together. In the Elbe Tunnel you switch perspective and suddenly experience the harbour from below, before the boat tour with Barkassen-Centrale Ehlers - Hafenrundfahrt Hamburg sets the picture of working Hamburg in motion once more.

Day 2 · Hamburg

Green, water, history

Planten un Blomen starts the day calmly, with plenty of green and a break from the bustle of the big streets. At the Binnenalster the city then opens up, bright and wide, with water at its centre. The St. Nikolai Memorial adds a serious, powerful contrast, and in the Deichstraße the day ends between historic facades that still make Hamburg's old merchant city tangible.

Day 3 · Hamburg

Brick and big views

On the Elbphilharmonie Plaza the day begins with a view that brings harbour, city and sky together at once. In Miniatur Wunderland things then become surprisingly detailed and concentrated, almost like a second journey in miniature. The St. Catherine Church brings calm back into the day, before you find the perfect ending to this route in the Speicherstadt, between canals and brick.
