Santorini & Naxos in 7 Days

This trip feels like an interplay of wide sea views, white alleys and dusty paths between rock, chapels and beach. On Santorini you walk along the crater rim, look into the caldera and switch from quiet villages to striking coasts. Then Naxos turns greener, earthier and more village-like, with mountain places, ancient sanctuaries and long sandy beaches.

What is special about this route is the contrast of two Cycladic islands with quite their own pace. Santorini delivers dramatic views and iconic paths, Naxos more everyday feeling, wide landscape and room to breathe.

Who is this trip for?

This trip is ideal for you if you like island hopping with plenty of atmosphere and want to combine culture, views and beach in one week. The pace is varied: sometimes with longer walks and excursions into the island's interior, sometimes with relaxed hours by the water.

What to expect

Expect a good mix of coastal places, village alleys, viewpoints and beach stretches. Some days are more walking-intensive, especially on Santorini and around Oros Zevs, others leave more room for breaks and slow discovery.

Day 1 · Santorini, Greece

Caldera, cliffs, coastal path

To open, Santorini begins with the small harbor of Όρμος Αμμούδι, where the rocks drop straight into the water and the island immediately shows its dramatic side. In Oia you walk through narrow alleys, past terraces and sightlines that keep pulling toward the caldera. Later the Fira to Oia Walk sums up exactly what makes Santorini so special: a path with constantly changing perspectives over sea, crater rim and white places.

Day 2 · Santorini, Greece

Villages and red coast

Today Santorini shows itself away from the most famous postcard motifs, beginning in Pyrgos Kallistis with winding alleys and a quieter view of the island. In Megalochori everything feels a bit more laid-back, almost village-like, with corners where you just want to stop and look. To close, it turns rougher at the Red beach, where dark rock and red cliffs set a strong contrast to the water.

Day 3 · Santorini, Greece

Black sand and Fira

The day starts at the Black Sandy Beach, where the coast has a completely different color and mood than the bright caldera places. Then it goes up to the Monastery of Prophet Elias of Thira, high up and with a wide view over Santorini. In Fira it turns lively again, and at the Three Bells of Fira that clear interplay of domes, sea and steep coast awaits once more.

Day 4 · Naxos, Naxos and Lesser Cyclades, Greece

Naxos in the island interior

On Naxos everything begins in Apeiranthos, a mountain village with stone alleys and a quite own, almost cool calm. At Παναγία Δροσιανή (4ος-6ος μ.Χ) you feel how old and deeply rooted the island's history is here. In Chalkio and Filoti the day then turns softer and closer to everyday life: villages for slow strolling, with squares, doorways and views into the surrounding slopes.

Day 5 · Naxos, Naxos and Lesser Cyclades, Greece

Mountain, temple, ancient traces

Today Naxos turns wide and open: Oros Zevs takes you into a landscape that feels large and windy. Then the Ancient Temple of Demeter sets a calm, clear archaeological accent between fields and hills. With the Kouros of Flerio the day ends at one of those quiet ancient traces that feel less staged and, precisely for that, stay in your mind for a long time.

Day 6 · Naxos, Naxos and Lesser Cyclades, Greece

Beach day on the west coast

After the mountain and village days, now comes a lot of sand underfoot: in the Cedar Forest of Alyko the coast feels more natural and a bit wilder. Then follows Plaka Beach with a long shore and plenty of room to just walk along the water. Agia Anna beach and Agios Prokopios Beach carry the day on in a relaxed way, with exactly that bright, open island feeling for which Naxos is so often chosen again.

Day 7 · Naxos, Naxos and Lesser Cyclades, Greece

Old town and Portara

To close, the day begins gently at Agios Georgios Beach, where sea and city lie close together. In the Venetian Castle of Naxos you then switch to narrow alleys, stairs and walls that give the island capital structure and history. Later everything is drawn to the Portara, the open stone gate by the water, which lets this last day wind down with a clear, striking image.
