Algarve in 6 Days

This route shows you the Algarve in strong contrasts: quiet old-town lanes in Faro, salty air by the lagoon, bright rocky coves near Carvoeiro and golden cliffs around Lagos. You stand in front of Baroque churches, walk along coastal paths and keep looking out at that intense blue that is present here almost all day long. Every place feels different, and that is exactly what makes the trip so complete.

What makes this tour special is the mix of city, nature and coast within short distances. You don't rush from highlight to highlight; instead you experience each stretch at its own rhythm: Faro compact and steeped in history, Carvoeiro close to the rocks, Lagos open and near the beach.

This trip is ideal for anyone who wants to get to know a coastal region beyond the beach. If you like being on foot, love viewpoints and find historic places just as exciting as natural scenery, this route is a very good fit. The pace is active but never rushed.

What to expect

Expect old-town strolls, beach stops and several paths along the cliffs, some with steps and uneven ground. The days mix culture and nature, with short changes of location and plenty of time outdoors. On the coastal sections especially, an early start pays off with pleasant light and more relaxed walking.

Day 1 · Faro

Faro between History and Harbour

The start in Faro is striking right away: in the Chapel of Bones of Faro, the city's history becomes tangible in a very direct way. Afterwards, the Igreja da Ordem Terceira de Nossa Senhora do Monte do Carmo feels almost like a place of calm, before light, water and open space stretch out in front of you at the Faro Marina. The trip thus begins with a day that brings together gravity, beauty and a relaxed harbour mood.

Day 2 · Faro

Lagoon, Island and Garden

Today Faro shows its open, airy side: at the Praia de Faro with sand, wind and plenty of horizon. In the Municipal Museum of Faro you then get a quieter look at the region, before the Parque Natural da Ria Formosa leads you back out into the landscape. The day thrives on the alternation between coast, culture and this special lagoon world.

Day 3 · Carvoeiro

Cliff Paths near Carvoeiro

With Marinha Beach begins one of the most scenic days of the trip: rock, sea and small coves interlock perfectly here. On the 7 Valleys Hike you then walk along the coast with open views again and again of the sheer edges and the water. In Benagil the rocky backdrop condenses once more, before you let the day wind down with salty air and tired legs.

Day 4 · Carvoeiro

Rocks, Paths and Sea Views

Around Alfanzina the coast feels rawer and more open, with clear lines between rock and Atlantic. At Algar Seco the landscape then becomes more playful, almost sculptural, and on the Carvoeiro Boardwalk you keep walking at ease with a constant view of the sea. This is a day for anyone who doesn't need much beyond wind, views and good paths.

Day 5 · Lagos

The Coves of Lagos

In Lagos today, one coastal scene follows the next: Porto Mós Beach opens wide and unhurried. Then the sections become more compact and dramatic, first at Praia Dona Ana and later at Praia do Camilo with its striking rocks and clear water. By now at the latest, you realise how much Lagos lives from its cliff-lined coves.

Day 6 · Lagos

Lagos and Its History

To finish, the town itself takes centre stage: at the Estátua a El Rei D. Sebastião you start right in the middle of urban life in Lagos. In the Mercado de Escravos - Núcleo Museológico Rota da Escravatura the place then gains historical depth, before you walk on through the Old town and read layers of the past in the streetscape. So the trip doesn't end with one last photo stop, but with a closer look.
