Peru in 9 Days
This route takes you from the Pacific coast in Lima up into the Andes, through colonial old towns, lively neighborhoods and to the great Inca sites. You switch between city strolls, viewpoints, markets and archaeological places that reveal themselves layer by layer. At the end, Machu Picchu waits not just as a highlight but as a whole stretch full of trails, cloud forest and stone architecture.
What makes this trip special is its clear dramaturgy: first Lima with history and coastal flair, then Cusco with its dense cultural core, after that the Sacred Valley and Aguas Calientes as the gateway to Machu Picchu. So each day feels different without the route fraying.
Who is this trip for?
This trip is ideal for anyone who wants to combine culture, city atmosphere and archaeological places in a compact route. If you like to see a lot, are out on foot and want to switch between urban scenes and mountain landscapes, this mix fits very well.
What to expect
Expect days with several stops, partly on cobblestones, partly with climbs and viewpoints. The trip mixes museums, historic squares, markets and nature experiences; the pace is active but well structured by the location changes.
Day 1 · Lima
Lima between history and water
To open, you dive at the Pucllana Site Museum straight into a much older side of Lima, right in the middle of the modern city. Later the Basílica and Convent of San Francisco | Lima sets a very different accent with its historic rooms, before the Plaza Mayor de Lima opens the colonial center. In the evening, the Magic Water Circuit of the Reserve Park feels like a light contrast to the history-laden start.

Coast, cliffs, Barranco
The day begins poetically at the Bridge of Sighs and leads you straight into the relaxed atmosphere of Barranco. Then you switch to the sea: at the Love Park and along the Malecón de Miraflores, Lima rises to great form on long paths above the cliffs. Miraflores frames the day with urban rhythm and plenty of views over the Pacific.

First look at Cusco
Around Cusco the day starts with the water sanctuaries of Tambomachay, where the landscape slowly turns into Inca territory. In the Q'enco Archaeological Complex it grows more enigmatic and stony, before the Mirador desde el Cristo Blanco spreads the city out from above. With Saqsaywaman you finally reach a site whose scale speaks even without many words.

Cusco's heartbeat
In the Mercado Central de San Pedro you get close to the city's everyday life: loud, colorful and full of movement. Then the space opens up on the Plaza Regocijo and further on the Plaza de Armas, where Cusco shows its historic center. The Cusco Cathedral sets a calm, impressive counterpoint at the end.

Stones, alleys, history
With Qorikancha the day begins at a place where Inca heritage and later history overlap directly. Via the Cuesta de San Blas you climb up into one of the city's most atmospheric quarters, and at the Twelve Angled Stone you see how precise this building craft still comes across today. The Museo de Arte Precolombino Larco rounds off the day with art and context.

Into the Sacred Valley
The way toward the valley starts hands-on and down-to-earth at the Mercado de artesanías, before you dive deep into the region's history again at the Centro Arqueológico de Chinchero. The Salt Mine of Maras then brings a completely different image into play: bright terraces, clear lines, open landscape. Ñaupa Iglesia (Choquequilla) feels at the end almost like a quiet side note to this many-sided day.

Ollantaytambo and the valley
In the morning the climb to the Sitio arqueológico Pinkuylluna is worth it, from where Ollantaytambo and the valley come across especially clearly. Then the view widens in the Sacred Valley, whose landscape connects the historic places with one another. With the Ollantaytambo Archeological Site and the Templo del sol the day ends monumental and very close to Inca architecture.

Arriving in Aguas Calientes
In Aguas Calientes the trip suddenly feels closer to the jungle, and the Butterfly Zoo - Mariposario of Machu Picchu makes this transition immediately tangible. Anyone looking for movement will already find a trail with a view and a foretaste of what's coming at Phutuq K'usi today. Later, Machu Picchu HotSprings brings a relaxed wind-down after an active day.

Machu Picchu as the finale
The last day begins with nature in the Santuario Natural de Mandor, before it turns steeper and more iconic with Huayna Picchu. Up top and around the ruins the images intensify: the Temple of the Three Windows and The Temple of the Sun show the precision of this site up close. From The Guard Houses the grand finale then feels just as expansive as you had hoped.
